The gnomonic instrument is made of
two sundials: the first one indicates solar midday of the time
zone of Aiello; civil time midday is indicated on the
lemniscates (a figure of 8).
During summer, the shade of the roof covers the great lemniscate;
this is the reason why a second smaller sundial was built, lit
from midday on throughout the year.
