In a precise moment, the places on Earth where the sun is rising are demarcated by the area illuminated by the sun, as opposite to the area in the shade, facing west.

The exposition to the sun of the Earth in the instant when the picture was taken, indicates that North America is still in the middle of the night; in South America, instead, the sun is rising in Caracas (Venezuela) and in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), while dawn will reach Buenos Aires (Argentina) in an hour.
