A lemniscates, a figure-eight line, was painted on the midday line, to be consulted at noon to determine the adjustment of the solar time with the conventional time in the various seasons.

Such adjustment of the solar time to the average time shown on our watches is determined by the speed of the Earth during its orbit around the sun. A second adjustment includes the correction of the Time Zone.
