The work was inspired by classical
mythology, according to which the meeting of Gaea (the Earth)
and Uranus (the Sky), originated Chronus (the Time), symbolised
by the quadrant of the sundial itself.
The two entities, pictured as a female and a male figure
respectively, reach out towards each other with their arms,
skimming one another with a finger; they are enclosed in a
circular structure, itself a symbol of the unstoppable
continuity of time.
